Generic Conventions of Music Genre

Within this prezi I have discussed the typical conventions included within the Dream Pop and Alternative genre which is what our music video genre will be. This will help us know what to include within our music video when it comes to making them so that we follow typical conventions but also challenge some.

    change 'stereotypes' in intro

    characters - can you think of more than just a love-struck couple?

    You say low key lighting is a common feature but it isn't in over half the examples you use here, so may need to add more and discus further

    maybe some of the character types, props, settings are so natural and common because the genre is often used for identification purposes by the audience. Remember to link back to key concepts often

    Are narratives generally open or closed in this genre? Linear or non-linear? Do they fit tOdorov;s theory?


    'the only theme in the genre is love'...WHAT?!?!?!?!?! Behave yourself. So the Broadcast or Artic Monkeys vids you use are all exclusively about love?

    Missing sound examples

    Cam - try and include some angles and movements too and consider what they signify

    Editing - no examples

    Not finished, but lots of good stuff there. Be prepared to really weigh through lots of examples and find the most common conventions. Not always easy with a genre like this but you will find the most frequently used aspects.

    Well written, lots of good examples and discussions. Needs some adding to, tweaking and completing.
