Music Video Regulations
What is it?
Music video regulations are used to age rate videos that are appearing online and on smartphone apps. For example, Vevo and YouTub.
What is the system in the UK?
The record labels submit to the BBFC any music video by their artist that is going to be released online in the UK which they are expecting the receive at least a 12 rating. The BBFC then classifies each video, watching it through in its entirety and then assigning an age rating and bespoke content advice on the basis of the BBFC's published Classification Guidelines. The sort of issues the BBFC considers in classifying music videos include:
- drug misuse
- dangerous behaviour presented as safe
- bad language
- sexual behaviour and nudity
- threatening behaviour and violence
Any parts in your video that needs classifying?
Our music video doesn't contain any explicit use of drugs, bad language or sexual behaviour within it meaning that it wouldn't need to be rated so that we are able to put it online. This means that the rating of the video would be under a 12 making it available to all to watch online with no restrictions. This is going to allow us to have a wider audience as there wont be a band on people that can watch it.
